Johnny Logan scored his 2nd win as a performer with "Hold Me Now", a  pop ballad. He wrote this and another Irish ESC winner "Why Me?".

MONACO 1971
With a title meaning "A Bench, A Tree, A Street", Severine gave Monaco a win at Eurovision, performing the song in French.

LARA FABIAN
LUXEMBOURG 1988
Lara Fabian was born in Belgium and later migrated to Montreal, Canada. In the same year that fellow French-Canadian performer Celine Dion entered the ESC representing Switzerland, Fabian performed the French song "Croire" ("Trust" / "Believe") for Luxembourg. In the Grand Final, Dion emerged victorious, with Fabian finishing in 4th position.

In 1986, the Top 3 songs were all sung in French. "Pas Pour Moi" ("Not For Me") finished as the runner-up.

Italy ended its 14-year boycott of the Eurovision Song Contest with a pop jazz song written by Raphael Gualazzi. He performed it in English and Italian. Italy was welcomed back with a respectable finish in second place.
