James Murphy is the pivotal member of LCD Soundsystem. The electronic / indie act's debut single was "Losing My Edge". Its spoken lyrics poke fun at music geeks who claim to be more au courant than others.
There are boasts about the first to do certain trendy things (eg. "I woke up naked on the beach in Ibiza in 1988"); experiencing acts at seminal moments ("I was the first guy playing Daft Punk to the rock kids") and claims about possessing the most impressive record collection of cutting edge acts.
A diverse array of acts are then listed. These include: Gil Scott-Heron, Lou Reed, Eric B. and Rakim, A-Ha, Soft Cell, 10cc and Joy Division. Many are so obscure that only a genuine music geek would recognize them.
The track was issued as a single in 2002. It bubbled under the UK Top 100, but has since gained critical acclaim. It was included on LCD Soundsystem's self-titled debut album 3 years later.
