BEFORE IT WAS A HIT SONG
These songs are well known but you may not know about the earlier attempts to score a hit record with prior versions of the same song.

It's not every day 2 major league bands combine forces on a track. In 2006, Irish rockers U2 and American punk/ alternative group Green Day did just that for "The Saints Are Coming". The release was to raise funds in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. As well as topping various charts in Europe and in Australia, the disc peaked at #2 in Britain.
This collaboration was an update of a song originally issued by The Skids. In 1978, the Scottish punk group reached #48 on the UK chart with the track. It was featured on the 'Wide Open' E.P.
