These songs are well known but you may not know about the earlier attempts to score a hit record with prior versions of the same song.

Please Mr. Please

In 1975, Olivia Newton John released "Please Mr. Please". The single soon became another major hit for the UK born- Australian pop star. In Canada, the disc reached #1. The country / pop track was a crossover success in the USA: #1 Adult Contemporary; #3 Pop and #5 Country. 

Bruce Welch, a member of the rock group The Shadows, co-wrote the song and released the original version. Released in 1974, his interpretation flopped.
