TAYLOR
American singer- songwriter James Taylor was born in 1948. His 1st instrument was the cello, but it was replaced by a guitar in his teen years. He formed a duo in 1963 with Danny Kortchmar. Later, he assembled a group with his brother Alex. Taylor was affected by depression and was admitted to a psychiatric hospital. When he was discharged in 1966, Taylor formed a new short-lived band named The Flying Machine.
His addiction to heroin became a cause for concern around the time of his signing with The Beatles' Apple Records. While his self-titled debut LP struggled to sell, the 2nd- entitled 'Sweet Baby James'- made the Top 10 in America, Britain and Canada during 1970. The album featured the US #3 hit "Fire And Rain".
Taylor's remake of Carole King's "You've Got A Friend" reached #1 in America the following year and earned him a Grammy Award.
In 1972, he married fellow singer-songwriter Carly Simon. They released a duet 2 years later: a remake of "Mockingbird". His inspired interpretations of songs such as "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)", "Up On The Roof" and "Handy Man" kept Taylor on the charts during the 1970s.
He and Simon divorced in 1983. A second marriage ended in 1996. Taylor continues performing and releasing albums. His most recent offering was 'Before This world' in 2015.
