BEFORE IT WAS A HIT SONG…

These songs are well known but you may not know about the earlier attempts to score a hit record with prior versions of the same song.

Last Kiss

Pearl Jam released "Last Kiss" in 1999. It topped the Australian chart and peaked at #2 in North America. Proceeds from the single were donated  by the group to CARE, an organization that helped the refugees from Kosovo.

The song was written by American musician Wayne Cochran, who released the original version in 1961. His recording failed to make an impact on the charts.  

In 1964, a remake was issued by J. Frank Wilson and The Cavaliers. The band's rendition peaked at #2 in America.
