BEFORE THE HIT VERSION. This post: LXXI-  FAMILY MAN. Continues: tomorrow.
BEFORE IT WAS A HIT SONG
These songs are well known but you may not know about the earlier attempts to score a hit record with prior versions of the same song.

The American duo Daryl Hall and John Oates recorded "Family Man" for the 1982 album 'H20'. It was issued as a single the following year, reaching #6 in the U.S.A. In the hands of Hall & Oates, the song became a hit, something that had eluded the original version.
Mike Oldfield had recorded the first version of "Family Man". It was featured on his LP 'Five Miles Out', released earlier in the same year as the Hall & Oates album. The lead vocal was performed by Maggie Reilly. She is 1 of Oldfield's co-writers for the track.
The original was issued about a year earlier than the remake charted in its own right. It dented the Canadian charts and bubbled under the UK Top 40. Hall & Oates saved the song from obscurity.
