On the 1969 album 'The Nitty Gritty', Gladys Knight & The Pips belt out the heart-wrenching track "Didn't You Know (You'd Have To Cry Sometime)". 
Gladys Knight is in her element, injecting high drama into the dramatic Motown song. The song was composed by married couple Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson. 
Its verses deal with a man who returns to the woman he hurt in the past after his heart has been shattered by another woman. The first woman points out that love can bring great joy but can also lead to deep pain.
