Copenhagen was host city for the 2001 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest following Denmark's win the previous year. The practice of the least successful countries missing out the next year continued. The 6 that had been deemed ineligible for 2000 returned as 7 nations took a year off.
At the conclusion of the event, Estonia was declared the victor. "Everybody", performed in English by Tanel Padar & Dave Benton, achieved the highest score. The ESC was headed for the relatively new republic of Estonia in 2002.
