Madonna has been a dancefloor favourite since the 1980s. She has astutely collaborated with cutting edge mavericks of new dance trends. "Ray Of Light" is the title track of her 1998 album, which saw her recruiting William Orbit.

At first, Motown was reluctant to jump on the disco bandwagon. Once it relented, it served up some impressive tracks, including the disco classic "Don't Leave Me This Way". Thelma Houston's 1976 remake of the Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes R&B gem topped the US Disco, Soul and Pop charts.

Pointer Sisters
With disco out of favour, The Pointer Sisters ushered in a new approach to dance music in the 1980s, led by the timeless "I'm So Excited" in 1982.

Four Seasons
The Four Seasons scored countless hits in the 1950s- 60s and enjoyed a chart revival with "December, 1963 (Oh, What A Night)". It reached #1 in America, Britain and Canada in 1976. The disco song remains a party favourite to this day.

Sister Sledge
The Sledge sisters delivered a timeless party favourite in "We Are Family". It was one of the results from collaborating with Chic's Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers. The funky disco track made the Top 3 in Canada, America and Britain in 1979.

Technotronic
Belgian act Technotronic helped expose the mainstream to a fusion of deep bass, hip hop, Eurodance and house. "Pump Up The Jam" peaked at #2 in both the USA and UK in 1989-90.

DISCO INFERNO
The Trammps
The Trammps originally released "Disco Inferno" in 1976. It reached #1 on the US Disco Chart the following year. In 1978, it was included on the mega-successful 'Saturday Night Fever' film soundtrack and achieved wider popularity.
