A killer remix can revive the chart fortunes of any artist or song. Dutch remixer JXL applied his skill to a re-tweak of a song Elvis originally recorded in 1968. The 2002 makeover returned Presley to the top of  charts in Europe, Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

German trio Silver Convention followed the formula of their smash "Fly Robin Fly" to further promote the joys of Euro-disco. In 1976, the disco group's "Get Up And Boogie" was rewarded with chart success.

'The Bodyguard' featured a mighty house remake of Chaka Khan's 1978 hit "I'm Every Woman" by Houston. Only Whitney would dare take on a classic like this. She scored a worldwide hit in the process.

"I See You Baby" featured Gram'ma Funk on vocals. The big beat track charted in 1999 for the UK duo Groove Armada. It featured the catchy chorus: "I see you baby, shakin' that ass".

MC Hammer
Rap was first appreciated at discotheques in the 1970s. It became a mainstream trend in 1990 thanks to acts such as MC Hammer and his big hit "U Can't Touch This". It was built around a sample of the Rick James song "Super Freak" from 1981.

Disco star Stewart plundered 60s classics for her 2 biggest hits: The Doors' "Light My Fire" and Eddie Floyd's "Knock On Wood". The latter reached #1 in North America during 1979.

WHAT IS LOVE
Haddaway
Born in Trinidad and raised in Germany, Haddaway was a leading exponent of Eurodance in the early 1990s. "What Is Love" reached #1 in Europe and was a hit in many other territories in 1993-4.
 On a black cover, a red early Run-DMC logo is above "vs Jason Nevins" in yellow graffiti font. The single title is in red in a smaller, plain all caps print below.

American producer Jason Nevins' remix of the 1983 rap song "It's Like That" gave it a new lease of life. In 1997-8, the hip house makeover took the hip hop trio to #1 in Britain, Australia and New Zealand.
