 ESSENTIAL SONGS BY
MICHAEL JACKSON
Audiences around the world were first in awe of Michael Jackson’s talent in 1969 when the wunderkind was still only 11 years of age and singing lead on “I Want You Back”. Soon, his solo career would eclipse the Jackson 5’s success. The brothers would quit the Motown label in 1975 and became The Jacksons. Michael remained a member, but his solo output went into overdrive with the albums ‘Off The Wall’, ‘Bad’ and the record-breaking ‘Thriller’. This period forever cemented his place among pop music’s greatest influences. Here are the 100 most essential recordings- solo and with his siblings- in terms of influence, popularity and quality. The tracks span the years 1969-2014.

THE GIRL IS MINE
MICHAEL JACKSON & PAUL McCARTNEY
No one could have foreseen the chart behemoth that 'Thriller' would become when "The Girl Is Mine" was released as its lead single in late 1982. The album followed a month later. By then, this duet was on its way to reaching #1 on the American R&B and Adult Contemporary charts. On the Billboard Hot 100, it peaked at #2. In Britain, the single was a Top 10 hit.

THE LOVE YOU SAVE
JACKSON 5
The Jackson 5's 3rd single on Motown made it 3 #1 singles in-a-row in 1970. "The Love You Save" was included on the 'ABC' album. The single also topped the US R&B Chart. In the UK, the song peaked at #7. It was another hit written and produced by team known as The Corporation.

ONE DAY IN YOUR LIFE
MICHAEL JACKSON
Motown resurrected this dormant hit-in-waiting when Michael's 'Off The Wall' made the singer one of the pop world's biggest stars. His old label rushed "One Day In Your Life" out to capitalize on his success in 1981. The sweet ballad was recorded for the 1975 album 'Forever Michael'.

GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH
MICHAEL JACKSON
The 'Ben' album was unleashed in 1972. "The Greatest Show On Earth" showcases the purity of Michael's strong vocal magic and is featured on the LP. Motown chief Berry Gordy Jr had groomed The Jackson 5 into a successful group and Michael was now scoring hits with a concurrent solo career.

LOVE NEVER FELT SO GOOD
MICHAEL JACKSON & JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE
Michael co-wrote "Love Never Felt So Good" with Paul Anka. The single version that emerged in 2014 was based around a 1983 recording of the song. That year's 'Xscape' album contained 2 versions of the song: a solo recording and a duet with Justin Timberlake. The single gave both male soloists another Top 10 hit in America and the UK.
