Petty wrote this song with Dave Stewart of The Eurythmics. The 2 co-produced the track with Jimmy Iovine. It was an adventurous shift for Petty, in terms of instrumentation and production. The end result is a standout hit in his songbook. Lifted off the 'Southern Accents' album, the single peaked at #13 in America.

FREE FALLIN'
TOM PETTY
(1989)
Petty released his first solo album in 1989. 'Full Moon Fever' was a multi-platimun LP that reached #3 in America. "Free Fallin'" was co-written by Petty with fellow Traveling Wilbury member Jeff Lynne. The 2 co-produced the track with Mike Campbell from his regular backing band The Heartbreakers. It reached the Top 10 in America, Canada and New Zealand.
To commemorate the 15th anniversary of George Harrison’s passing and in celebration of Bob Dylan’s Nobel Prize for Literature, it’s an opportune time to reflect on the 101 songs that matter most from the members of The Traveling Wilburys. As well as Harrison and Dylan, the group consisted of Roy Orbison, Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne. The latter is mostly represented on the Top 101 as a member of the Electric Light Orchestra. Also included are songs that Harrison penned for The Beatles to record.
Each update will be added to the Traveling Wilburys playlist on Spotify.
