WAITING ON A FRIEND
The 2nd single lifted off the 1981 album 'Tattoo You' was "Waiting On A Friend". The genesis of the ballad stretched back to the sessions for the 'Goats Head Soup' album in 1973. There are hints of Latino-rock and a delicious sax solo by Sonny Rollins. The single peaked at #13 in America.

STREET FIGHTING MAN
Amid the civil turbulence of 1968, "Street Fighting Man" proved to be a timely and political song by The Stones. It was featured on 'Beggars Banquet' and issued as a single. Jagger's vocal has a sense of urgency and is augmented by the others' musicianship. Brian Jones added an Eastern touch. Richards' guitar work powers the track. It was banned at the time, which hindered its sales. Since then, the track has often been cited as one the best in the group's songbook.

START ME UP
The lead single and major hit from 'Tattoo You', "Start Me Up" proved the band could still roll out a powerful and catchy rock anthem. In 1981, it reached #1 in Australia, #2 in America and 7 in Britain.

MOTHER'S LITTLE HELPER
"Mother's Little Helper" deals with a woman's dependence on drugs to make it through each day. This is an odd theme for a pop song, particularly in the 1960s. With the Stones still in its first years as hitmakers, the song marked a turning point in the Jagger / Richards songwriting team. The track, from 'Aftermath', was released as a single. In America, it peaked at #8.
