 Evita OST Madonna.png
 [1996]
After years of delays, the screen adaptation of 'Evita' finally premiered in 1996. Casting for the role of Eva Peron had seen the likes of Barbra Streisand and Meryl Streep rumoured. The musical, devised by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, had been a success on stages around the world. A film version was a no-brainer. The eventual movie saw Madonna in the title role, co-starring with Antonio Banderas and Jonathan Pryce. A new song was created by Lloyd Webber and Rice especially for the film. "You Must Love Me", performed by Madonna, collected an Oscar and Golden Globe Award. This is one of the most satisfying musicals: tunes in a range of styles and all helping to progress the plot. Madonna is at her best vocally, hitting the mark on both the ballads and upbeat songs. "You Must Love Me" is a powerful song, delivered with drama and emotion. The show-stopper "Don't Cry For Me, Argentina" is executed with the prominence it deserves. The key asset of the recording is Banderas. His Spanish accent adds an authenticity to his role as Ché as he performs key tracks "And The Money Kept Rolling In (And Out)" and "Oh What A Circus".
Highlight tracks: High Flying Adored; You Must Love Me; Don't Cry For Me, Argentina & Oh What A Circus.
