JEFF WAYNE'S MUSICAL VERSION OF THE WAR OF THE WORLDS:
 JEFF WAYNE
WayneTWOTW.jpg
 [1978]
Jeff Wayne adapted the H.G. Wells classic "The War Of The Worlds" to music. Richard Burton, as the narrator, adds credibility and drama to the project. He sets the concept album up perfectly with his first words on the opening track "The Eve Of The War". The cast also includes Justin Hayward (Moody Blues), Julie Covington, David Essex and Phil Lynott (Thin Lizzy). The orchestrations are impeccable. All the elements come together faultlessly. Wells' tale has been adapted many times and still captivates. Wayne's album sticks to Wells' nightmarish story while taking lessons from Orson Welles' radio presentation of the literary classic. The (rare) vinyl edition features a lavish and colourful booklet with illustrations.
Highlight tracks: Forever Autumn; The Eve Of The War & Thunder Child.
