The definitive list of 200 songs from the movies, recorded by by rock & pop acts since the start of the Rock Era in 1955.
To be eligible, the songs need to have been first heard in association with a film from the last 60 years (although some exceptions do exist where the song gained a higher profile after its use in a motion picture)- so no songs from “West Side Story”, “Phantom of the Opera”, “Les Miserables” or “The Sound Of Music” and other films that first started out as stage musicals.

Bee Gees
(‘Saturday Night Fever’- 1977)
 
 The box office hit film 'Saturday Night Fever' opens with John Travolta strutting down a New York street to the beat of "Stayin' Alive". The Bee Gees set the movie up perfectly with this timeless track. Despite being criminally ignored at the Academy Awards, the song claimed the #1 position in the US, Europe, Japan, Canada and Australia.

(‘Rocky III’- 1982)

 Survivor delivered Sylvester Stallone an unforgettable track for the 3rd instalment of his 'Rocky' film franchise. "Eye Of The Tiger" made #1 in the USA, Britain, parts of Europe, Canada and Australia. Today, it is still used as a motivating music track, particularly by athletes.

YOU'RE THE ONE THAT I WANT
Olivia Newton-John & John Travolta
(‘Grease’- 1978)
 
'Grease' was a fun upbeat film set in the 1950s. The film version used songs from the stage musical and some new songs created for the screen adaptation. The 2 co-stars Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta performed this duet written for the film. It was a #1 smash in the USA, UK, Europe, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

(‘Dirty Dancing’- 1987)
 
 "(I've Had) The Time Of My Life" features in the finale of the musical film 'Dirty Dancing'. It is 1 of the best known movie songs. Along with earning a Grammy Award, the song was lauded with an Oscar and a Golden Globe. On the charts, it reached #1 in the USA and Australia.

FLASHDANCE... WHAT A FEELING
Irene Cara
(‘Flashdance’- 1983)
 
 Irene Cara consolidated her success with the film and hit single from 'Fame' when she sang the title song from the romantic drama 'Flashdance'. She co-wrote the song. It was another hit produced by Giorgio Moroder. The recording attracted a Grammy, Golden Globe and an Academy Award. Cara's song topped the charts in America, Japan, Europe, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. In Britain, the hit peaked at #2.
