A NEW WORLD RECORD:
ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA
 ELO A New World Record.jpg
 [1976]
With 'A New World Record', all the ingredients finally fused together and ELO had a classic album on its hands. All the excesses of the recording studio and the latest technological sound wizardry of the time are astutely applied here. It was ELO at its creative best, (where 'Out of the Blue' and 'Discovery' were more radio-friendly offerings). The references to rock 'n roll, and The Beatles most particularly, are there, on tracks like "Do Ya", "So Fine" and "Rockaria!". The latter infuses it with elements of classical and opera. Space travel is another theme for the songs such as "Mission (A New World Record)". Jeff Lynne is the mastermind behind the tracks, penning them all. This remains a snapshot of music in the 1970s. Highlight tracks: Livin' Thing; Telephone Line & Rockaria!
