1986 saw attitudes shift towards the A.I.D.S. crisis. "That's What Friends Are For" gathered Dionne Warwick, Elton John, Stevie Wonder and Gladys Knight together to collect funds for the cause as well as raising awareness. Paul Simon introduced mainstream audiences to the exciting sounds of the African continent. Although his 'Graceland' album was lauded, it sparked controversy. Actor Eddie Murphy scored a major hit with the funky song "Party All The Time". Anita Baker helped usher in the 'Quiet Storm' music era with her album 'Rapture'. Peter Gabriel, Lionel Richie and Robert Palmer delivered iconic music videos. Run DMC covered Aerosmith's rock track "Walk This Way" and scored rap's 1st major chart hit. World Party's "Ship Of Fools" prophetically warned us about the desperate need to protect our planet.
