TONIGHT: RENÉE GEYER

 [2005]
Renée Geyer has long been hailed as 1 of Australia's premiere vocalists. Her brand of blue-eyed soul has wowed critics and audiences since the 1970s. That voice is just as strong on her 2005 album release 'Tonight'. What makes this album stand out among the others in her vast catalogue is the marriage of traditional rhythm and blues with modern technology. That powerful voice is augmented by the use of electronic effects. The result is a fresh and contemporary context for Geyer; but never at the expense of the music. The ballad "Love Is A Drug" is 1 of her best recordings ever, crafted in the tradition of Burt Bacharach & Hal David. The beautiful arrangement is breathtaking. "He Loves Me Not" and "Lost In Space" bring together the 2 worlds most effectively: Geyer's soulful vocal with modern sonic flourishes. Highlight tracks: I'm Evil Tonight; Love Is A Drug & He Loves Me Not.
