By 1961, rock 'n roll was morphing into "rock music"; a reflection of its increasing acceptance by the mainstream. Studio technology improved significantly with Phil Spector's "little symphonies for the kids". Ray Charles mixed country with R&B. Folk rock produced the hit remake of "Michael" by The Highwaymen and embraces rising star Joan Baez. Del Shannon's "Runaway" impressed audiences with its clavioline solo.
