Now that we are 15 years into the 21st Century, it’s apropos to look back over the 200 songs since 2000 that have made the greatest impact on the sound of music as it stands in 2015.
To be eligible for the Top 200, a song must have officially appeared on an album, CD single  or as a download between Jan. 1, 2000 and December 31, 2014.
180 WE BELONG TOGETHER
MARIAH CAREY [2005]

Anyone doubting Mariah Carey could come back after her meltdown period, was proven wrong with the phenomenal success of “We Belong Together”. The R&B hit became the 2nd longest running #1 single in US history, reigning for 14 weeks, Carey now has the 2 longest running #1 hits on Billboard’s Hot 100. (after “One Sweet Day” with Boyz II Men enjoyed 16 weeks at the top).

TAYLOR SWIFT [2014]
 
Taylor Swift drifted even further from her country roots and embraced pop with 1 of the most commercial releases of this decade. “Shake It Off” was co=written by Swift with Max Martin and Shellback.

Travis let the banjo shine on this tender track from the Scottish group’s ‘The Invisible Band’ album.
175 THINKING OUT LOUD
ED SHEERAN [2014]
 
Ed Sheeran’s trajectory has positioned him as 1 of the most promising recording artists of the current decade. “Thinking Out Loud” is but 1 of the gems on his impeccable ‘X’ album. It is 1 of the best written love songs that will feature on many wedding days into the future. Songwriting talent and vocal ability ought to help him sustain his success.

Train seem to have followed a formula to create “Drops Of Jupiter”, but it  has remained a radio staple ever since. .
173 LOVELY HEAD
GOLDFRAPP [2000]
 
Beautifully executed and unique in its production, “Lovely Head” should continue inspiring artists for years to come. English vocalist Alison Goldfrapp skillfully fills the soundscape on this track.
172 THE FOX (WHAT DOES THE FOX SAY?)
YLVIS [2013]
 
Norwegian brothers created this dance track as part of their comedy act. The video went viral and resulted in a worldwide chart hit. Its success proved the impact of the internet as a launching pad for music. This is also 1 of the best examples of an earworm song.
171 BAD DAY
DANIEL POWTER [2005]
Canadian singer Daniel Powter scored an international hit with “Bad Day”. Its lyrics were instantly relatable.
