CAFFE` LATTE` TOP 2000 TRACKS
THE TOP 100
#95 ONE DAY I'LL FLY AWAY
RANDY CRAWFORD
(1980)
Writers: Joe Sample & Will Jennings
Randy Crawford released her 'Now We May Begin' album in 1980. "One Day I'll Fly Away" was the hit single from that LP. The vocalist had worked with 1 of its co-writers, Joe Sample, previously. He had contributed to her solo debut album and she sang guest vocals on The Crusaders' best known track, "Street Life". Sample co-produced "One Day..." with 2 other members of the group: Wilton Felder and Stix Hooper.
The ballad is a soulful classic, with its delicate string arrangement and Crawford's trademark quiver in her vocal approach. This serves to heighten the emotional impact of the lyrics. "One Day..." became Crawford's signature song. The single peaked at #2 in Britain and reached the top of the Dutch and Belgian charts. In Australia, the disc made the top 30.
Crawford re-united with Sample in 2006 for a duet album entitled 'Feeling Good' and, 2 years later, for 'No Regrets'. In 2012, they issued a live album that featured a re-recording of "One Day...". Along with Crawford's remake, the ballad has been covered by other acts; the best being Nicole Kidman's rendition on the 'Moulin Rouge' soundtrack album in 2001.
This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
A new song from the remaining Top 100 is added each weekday, while another 2 are also included from positions 1501-2000 daily. Check back here ev
