Roy Orbison opened 1963 with his self-penned song about unrequited love, "In Dreams". The song's structure and The Big O's vocal approach lull you into a trance-like state at the start. As the song unravels, Orbison beckons the listener further into the world of dreams and we discover the object of his devotion is merely a fantasy. He can only hold her in his dreams. 
The theme proved relatable to Orbison's fans around the world; giving him a Top 10 hit in the UK, America and Canada. On the Australian chart, the single reached #1. The disc's success augered well for Orbison that year. In 1963, he charted with other hits, including "Blue Bayou", "Falling" and "Pretty Paper".      

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
