CAFFE` LATTE` TOP 2000 TRACKS

#136 I'M SO EXCITED Pointer Sisters
The Pointer Sisters' signature song is 1 of the defining floor filler dance tracks of the 1980s. The trio co-wrote "I'm So Excited" with songwriter Trevor Lawrence. As Ruth Pointer recounted to me during an interview, he asked the siblings what they wanted to write about. They explained that they wanted something that "would make people feel good". He asked the trio to come up with some phrases, directing them towards the way they feel when going out on a date. They suggested: "I'm going out with a guy and I'm so excited!" Pointer continued: "it was like a group consensus... that we wanted a phrase that people hear all the time, that would remind them of our song".
Richard Perry produced the recording which was included on The Pointer Sisters' 'So Excited' album, dropped in 1982. The title track was issued as a single that year and made inroads on the American Pop Hot 100, as well as reaching #28 on the Dance chart there. It fared better in Australia and Sweden where the disc was a Top 10 hit.
In 1984, The Pointer Sisters released a new album, focused more on dance with tracks that were successful chart hits including "Jump (For My Love)", "Neutron Dance", "Baby Come and Get It" and "Automatic". An edited version of "I'm So Excited" was added to its track listing. The song was re-released. This time, the single climbed to #9 Pop in the US and 11 in the UK.
The trio enjoyed not only a resurgence of popularity, but their most lucrative period, in the 1980s. The hits had slowed down by the 1990s but they continued recording until 1993.  Ruth's daughter Issa replaced her aunt June, who passed away from lung cancer in 2006. Ruth continues performing to this day, with her daughter and granddaughter Sadako.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
A new song from the Top 200 is added each day, while another 2 are also included from positions 1501-2000 daily. Check back here every 12 hours for an update of the 2000.
