CAFFE` LATTE` TOP 2000 TRACKS

#184 HEADING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION Renee Geyer
Australia's eminent blue-eyed soul vocalist has been wowing this country's audiences for 5 decades. Her 1st singles to make the Australian chart were "What Do I Do On Sunday Morning?" and a mighty remake of James Brown's "It's A Man's Man's World" in 1974 and '75 respectively. Later in the same year, Geyer dropped a stunning new single; an original entitled "Heading in the Right Direction".
The disc became her 1st to crack the Top 40 here, peaking at #31. It was co-written by her guitarist Mark Punch with Garry Paige. "Heading...", a moving R&B ballad, was included on her 'Ready To Deal' album, which was unleashed around the same time and peaked at #21. This hit helped establish Geyer as 1 of the few widely respected female vocalists during the Seventies. "Heading..." was produced by Geyer with Ern Rose, Punch and members of her band: Barry Sullivan, Greg Tell and Mal Logan.
Following the single's success in Australia, RCA / Mushroom Records planned to launch the singer in the USA. Geyer explained to me during an interview that she was advised to release the track without a photo. At the time, radio was very segregated and black music stations were reluctant to play songs by white artists. Geyer confessed she did not comprehend and insisted that her photo be included with the single. R&B radio stations immediately discarded the song from their playlists. Sadly, "Heading..." flopped in America.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
A new song from the Top 200 is added each day, while another 2 are also included from positions 1501-2000 daily. Check back here every 12 hours for an update of the 2000.
