CAFFE` LATTE` TOP 2000 TRACKS

#187 STONEY END Bsrbra Streisand
As well as milking many a standard in her repertoire, Barbra Streisand has achieved success by covering classics from the stage and screen. In between, she has recorded albums which have kept her relevant. Among these projects are her collaboration with the Bee Gees ('Guilty'), her disco tracks and the modern remakes of songs by the likes of John Lennon, David Bowie, Paul Simon and- in the case of "Stoney End"- Laura Nyro.
The singer/ songwriter released an album in 1967 entitled 'More Than A New Discovery'. While the LP failed to attract significant sales for Nyro, various tracks would become hits in the hands of others. Blood, Sweat and Tears scored success with "And When I Die". The Fifth Dimension reached #1 in the USA with her "Wedding Bell Blues". Streisand's cover of "Stoney End" was the title track of the actress/ singer's 1971 album. Peggy Lipton had released a version of it as a single in 1968.
Richard Perry produced 'Stoney End'. The title track sees Streisand blend pop/ rock with gospel. The single peaked at #6 Pop and 2 Adult Contemporary in the US and reached #5 in Canada. In the UK, it climbed to #27.
Streisand also covered Nyro's "Time and Love" on the 'Stoney End' album. Sadly, fellow New Yorker Nyro passed away in 1997, only a few months before her 50th birthday, of ovarian cancer. She is still a respected songwriter.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
A new song from the Top 200 is added each day, while another 2 are also included from positions 1501-2000 daily. Check back here every 12 hours for an update of the 2000.
