CAFFE` LATTE` TOP 2000 TRACKS

#185 LOVE IS IN CONTROL (FINGER ON THE TRIGGER) Donna Summer
By 1982, Donna Summer had intentionally distanced herself from disco. It was no radical move; the genre had lost its momentum and Summer had made a point of incorporating other musical styles on her 70s albums, even if everyone focused on her dance hits. The lead single off her self-titled album that year found her without Giorgio Moroder. Her new producer was Quincy Jones. While Moroder had shaped Summer's disco output, 'Q' was then 1 of the hottest producers, largely due to his work on Michael Jackson's 'Off the Wall' LP. He co-wrote "Love is in Control" with Rod Temperton and Merria Ross.
The session players on the single included Greg Phillinganes on synthesizer, Michael Sembello (of "Maniac" fame) on guitar, Paulinho da Costa on percussion, Jerry Hey on horns, Among the  background vocalists were James Ingram and Howard Hewett.
"Love is in Control" fared well on the charts, ensuring Summer a successful transition from her traditional dance style. The new song was funky and R&B flavoured. On the charts, it reached #10 in America. It also made the Top 10 in Canada and Europe. In the UK, the disc peaked at #18. On the Australian chart, it climbed to #17.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
A new song from the Top 200 is added each day, while another 2 are also included from positions 1501-2000 daily. Check back here every 12 hours for an update of the 2000.
