CAFFE` LATTE`
TOP 2000 CHOICE TRACKS

#200 I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU Whitney Houston
Whitney Houston certainly raised the bar with her mighty rendition of "I Will Always Love You", the ballad she recorded for her movie  debut in 'The Bodyguard', The original plan was to have her cover the Jimmy Ruffin Motown hit "What Becomes of the Broken-Hearted". Music producer David Foster was due to record Houston's remake the next day when he read in Billboard Magazine that British singer Paul Young had just charted with his version of the Motown classic. Foster called Houston's co-star in the film, Kevin Costner. The latter offered some suggestions, among them Linda Ronstadt's remake of a Dolly Parton song entitled "I Will Always Love You".
Ronstadt's interpretation was featured on her 1975 album 'Prisoner In Disguise'. Parton's original, inspired by the end of her working relationship with Porter Wagoner, had been recorded 2 years prior. She had re-recorded it for use in the 1982 film 'The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas'. Parton scored minor chart success with the song.
Foster produced Houston's cover version, which became the 1st single lifted off 'The Bodyguard' soundtrack. He transformed the subdued country ballad into an R&B love song that gradually built up to a finish fit for a soul diva. "I Will Always..." enjoyed a record-breaking 14-week reign atop the US chart. The disc also reached #1 in Europe, Britain, Australia, Canada and New Zealand.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
A new song from the Top 200 is added each day, while another 2 are also added from positions 1501-2000 daily. Check back here for an update on the Top 2000 every 12 hours.
