CAFFE` LATTE`
TOP 1500 CHOICE TRACKS

#202 WHERE IS IT WRITTEN? Barbra Streisand
The 'Yentl' soundtrack album opens with "Where is it Written?", which finds the title character asking herself why the obstacles that hinder a woman's quest for knowledge and equality must be adhered to. The protagonist's questioning of tradition and accepted mores in her society sets her on a path that she could not foresee. Barbra Streisand, no stranger herself to pushing the boundaries of her own time, is the perfect mouthpiece for Yentl's struggles.
"Where is it Written?" was composed by Michel Legrand with lyrics from married couple Alan & Marilyn Bergman. Their words will resonate with any marginalised minority. The song's 3 writers co-produced the track with Streisand. Phil Ramone supervised its post production. The album and motion picture were released in 1983.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
A new song is added each day.
