ABBATHE 40 MOST IMPORTANT SONGS

12 KNOWING ME, KNOWING YOU

Writers: Benny Andersson / Bjorn Ulvaeus / Stig Anderson

ABBA revealed their maturity early on, with "Knowing Me, Knowing You" the best example up to this point in their history. The track, from the mostly cheesy 'Arrival' album, deals with the end of a relationship. Its lyrics convey a void, loneliness and an inevitability. Ironically, while his marriage to Agnetha was still healthy, Bjorn's songwriting foresaw the future for both couples within the group. Frida's lead here is one of her most powerful, while Agnetha delivers one of pop music's sexiest whispers. Despite its gloomy subject matter, the single fared well on the charts around the world, especially in the UK, Ireland and Germany, where it reached #1.
