CAFFE` LATTE`
TOP 1500 CHOICE TRACKS

#272 TAXI MARY Jo Jo Zep
Australian music veteran Joe Camilleri was born in Malta and migrated to his new homeland at a young age. He has been a part of the country's musical landscape for 5 decades. During the 1970s, he fronted the band Jo Jo Zep and The Falcons. They scored a string of domestic chart hits which included "Hit and Run", "Shape I'm In" and "All I Wanna Do".
In 1982, the group shortened its name to Jo Jo Zep which essentially was a revamped outfit with Camilleri as the pivotal member. That same year saw the release of the single "Taxi Mary". The song was written by Camilleri with the group's guitarists Jeff Burstin and Tony Faehse. Peter Solley produced the track . It was recorded in Melbourne, Australia in mid- 1982. Jane Clifton contributed guest vocals on "Taxi Mary". She is best remembered for her portrayal of Margo Gaffney in the Australian TV drama "Prisoner". The track was included on the Jo Jo Zep album 'Cha'.
The group split in 1983 and Camilleri formed The Black Sorrows the following year. This new band enjoyed hits such as "Harley and Rose", "Chained to the Wheel' and "Hold on to Me". The Black Sorrows disbanded in 1993 and Camilleri continued as a soloist. He still records to this day.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
2 new instalments are added each day (every 12 hours) with 1 of the remaining 300 songs as well as moving down from #1201 to 1500, with 5 of those songs added daily.
