#369 THE BOXER Simon & Garfunkel
Simon and Garfunkel's "The Boxer" was issued in early 1969 as a preview of what was to come on their classic album 'Bridge Over Troubled Water'. Paul Simon wrote the song. With a running time of over 5 minutes, an extra verse was cut from the original version. The duo co-produced the epic track with Roy Halee. 
Released as a single, "The Boxer" peaked at #7 in the USA, 6 in Britain and reached the Top 10 in Europe and Australia. It remains 1 of the duo's most enduring tracks. It is also 1 of the few rock staples with a wordless chorus, consisting only of "lie-la-lie". The arrangement is simple yet powerful; mixing acoustic guitar, strings, trumpet, percussion and a harmonica solo seamlessly.

Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice.
