CAFFE` LATTE`
TOP 1200 CHOICE TRACKS

#428 BABY IT'S YOU Promises
The family act Promises enjoyed success with "Baby It's You" in the 1970s. It consisted of brothers Benny and Jed Knauer on keyboards/ vocals and guitar /piano respectively, and sister Leslie on vocals. Their father Peter migrated from Germany to Canada. Years later, he moved his family to California. With his own musical experience, it was no surprise that his 3 children chose to form a rock group. Peter managed them.
That band - Promises - began recording their self-titled debut album in 1978. Leslie & Benny co-wrote "Baby..." and the track was produced by Steve Verroca. After success in Germany and other European territories, the single was picked up by Australian TV music shows and radio. "Baby..." peaked at #2 in Australia in 1979, where it became 1 of the biggest hits of the year.
While Promises are often referred to as 1-Hit Wonders, the group's follow-up single "Let's Get Back Together" did chart in Australia, reaching #27 that same year. Despite a strong reception for the 1st album, its follow-up 'Reel To Reel' and lead-off single "Ooh, Baby I Like It" failed to match the quality of that initial hit song. The group broke up soon after. While the whereabouts of the 2 brothers are unknown, Leslie has continued performing. She fronts the band Kanary.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
2 new songs are added each day (every 12 hours)  with a mid-week bonus every Wednesday.
