TOP 1200 CHOICE TRACKS

#413 ORIGINAL SIN INXS
Andrew Farris had composed a music track that Michael Hutchence wrote some lyrics for. INXS had approached Nile Rodgers to produce the recording for this new song: "Original Sin". Rodgers explained to me when I interviewed him in 2012 that the track was cut in just 1 take. "I could tell they were a little nervous". Rodgers decided to pretend they were just rehearsing. "I told the engineer (Jason Pocaro), behind their back, just record the song. They won't know it, but don't worry about it".
Daryl Hall contributed backing vocals on the hit song. Rodgers switched the order of the chorus' lines so that the racial issue was injected into the track. Tommy Mottola was concerned this theme would harm Hall's career. The song was featured on the 1984 album 'The Swing'. "Original Sin" served as the lead single and the LP's opening track. It became INXS' only #1 song in Australia. In France, the disc peaked at #2. It went Top 10 in New Zealand and Top 20 in Canada. In 2014, following a tele-movie about INXS, "Original Sin" charted again in Australia.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
2 new songs are added each day (every 12 hours)  with a mid-week bonus every Wednesday.
