CAFFE` LATTE`
TOP 1200 CHOICE TRACKS

Mid-week bonus - 1 new song will be added every 6 hours throughout today
#474 SOMETHING'S GOTTEN HOLD OF MY HEART Marc Almond with Gene Pitney
Marc Almond will always be remembered for singing "Tainted Love" as part of the duo Soft Cell in the early '80s. He launched a solo career in 1987 after some limited success with other projects. In 1988, he enjoyed a chart-topping hit with his cover of "Something's Gotten Hold of my Heart".
The song had been a #5 British hit for Gene Pitney in 1967. It was penned by UK songwriters Roger Cook and Roger Greenway.
When Almond decided to record his remake, Pitney was invited to re-record his old hit as a duet. With his tight touring schedule, Pitney squeezed in the session. He and Almond recorded separately. They did finally meet, in Las Vegas, to film the music video. Bob Krauushaar produced the new version of the song. La Magia performed the keyboards, double bass and drums. The record billed Pitney as a featured 'special guest star'.
The original Almond take on the song was a solo and included on his 'The Stars We Are' album. The duet version was a #1 in Britain, Germany and Switzerland. Sadly, Pitney died in 2006 in Cardiff, Wales, following a show there the previous night.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
2 new songs are added each day (every 12 hours)  with a mid-week bonus every Wednesday.
