CAFFE` LATTE`
TOP 1200 CHOICE TRACKS

#483 MY BABY JUST CARES FOR ME Nina Simone
Nina Simone was born Eunice Waymon in 1933 and became 1 of the leading jazz crossover acts. Not only was she an outstanding pianist and singer, but many of her songs became anthems for the civil rights movement.
Eddie Cantor recorded the first version of "My Baby Just Cares For Me" for the film 'Whoopee!' in 1930. Simone's interpretation in 1959 is her sole inclusion on this Top 1200. It is a jazzy love song written by Gus Kahn and Walter Donaldson. The track was included on her first album 'Little Girl Blue'. The song's popularity increased considerably in 1987 following its use in a British TV ad for perfume. Simone enjoyed her 1st UK Top 10 hit since 1969 when "My Baby..." peaked at #5 there. The following year, the single charted in Australia and climbed to #36.
In 1995, Simone was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. She continued recording and performing until mid-2002 when tests revealed she had breast cancer. Simone succumbed to the disease in April 2003, aged 70.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
2 new songs are added each day (every 12 hours)  with a mid-week bonus every Wednesday.
