CAFFE` LATTE`
TOP 1200 CHOICE TRACKS

#464 YOU'VE GOT A FRIEND James Taylor
James Taylor had toured with Carole King as his opening act a few months before he scored his only US #1 single with a remake of her composition "You've Got A Friend". The song had been included on King's best selling album 'Tapestry'.
Bostonian Taylor had already broken through in 1970 with "Fire and Rain". That #3 single featured King on piano. He recorded "...Friend" for his 'Mud Slide Slim and the Blue Horizon' album which was issued in 1971. Joni Mitchell sings background vocals on the track. Peter Asher, of Peter and Gordon fame, produced.
As well as reaching the chart pinnacle in America, Taylor's cover peaked at #4 in Britain and 2 in Canada. His version collected a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Performance (Male) and earned King the Song of the Year award. Taylor still performs and records to this day. He was married to singer Carly Simon for 10 years (1972-82).

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
2 new songs are added each day (every 12 hours)  with a mid-week bonus every Wednesday.
