CAFFE` LATTE`
TOP 1200 CHOICE TRACKS

#462 THERE'S A KIND OF HUSH Herman's Hermits
Before Herman's Hermits made a worldwide smash hit of "There's a Kind of Hush", it was recorded by the New Vaudeville Band. Geoff Stephens was a member of that group (they scored a US #1 in 1966 with "Winchester Cathedral"). He co-wrote the song with Les Reed.
Herman's Hermits released their version of it in 1967. It reached #4 in the US, 7 in Britain and also made Top 10 in countries including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland and Malta. It was the title track from their 'There's a Kind of Hush All Over the World' album. It's a timeless cheery hit that encapsulates 60s pop succinctly. The horns, strings and Peter Noone's lead vocal mesh beautifully. Mickie Most produced the hit record.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
2 new songs are added each day (every 12 hours)  with a mid-week bonus every Wednesday.
