#532 MARRIED MEN Bette Midler
Arif Mardin produced Bette Midler's 'Thighs and Whispers' album.  Released in 1979, it was recorded at Atlantic Studios in New York City. "Married Men" was 1 of its highlights. The track was written by Dominic Bugatti and Frank Musker.
The song was written for use in the film 'The World is Full of Married Men', based on the Jackie Collins novel. Bonnie Tyler recorded the original version of the song and performs it in the movie. Midler's remake features Luther Vandross on background vocals and Michael Brecker on tenor solo. The disco-flavoured song deals with infidelity and the empty promises married men spin for their mistresses. The original reached #35 in the UK. Midler's camp cover peaked at #40 in the US. Both versions charted in 1979. In Australia, Midler 's remake was preferred and climbed to #37, with Tyler only reaching #87.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
