CAFFE` LATTE`
TOP 1200 CHOICE TRACKS

#609 ZOOM Fat Larry's Band
"Zoom" was a catchy light soul song recorded by Fat Larry's Band. The group was named after lead singer and drummer Larry James. Forming in Philadelphia, the band's US success was largely restricted to the lower rungs on the R&B chart. They fared better in Britain, where their first chart appearance was with "Centre City" in 1976.
"Zoom" is their best known song. It was written by Len Barry and Bobby Eli. The former had been a member of The Dovells and was now working as a songwriter/ producer. The latter had been a guitarist in Phillie group MFSB. "Zoom" was produced by James and Nick Martinelli. In 1982, the single peaked at #2 in the UK. In Australia, where they are a one-hit wonder, the song reached #10. In their homeland, the single stopped climbing at #89. Sadly, in 1987, "Fat Larry" died, aged only 38.
