#601 HICKORY DICKORY DOCK Etta James
Etta James was born Jamesetta Hawkins in Los Angeles in 1938. She became 1 of the most influential blues / R&B singers. Her earliest recordings were in the mid-50s beginning with "Roll With Me Henry" (aka "The Wallflower"). Her career took off once she signed with Chess Records in 1960. The magic started from that point, with James cutting some breathtaking R&B classics including "All I Could Do Was Cry" and "Trust In Me", both in 1961. 
It was in the same year that "Hickory Dickory Dock" was released by James. The song was written by Howard Mandolph. This dates back to James' time recording for the Modern and Kent labels- prior to switching to Chess.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
