CAFFE` LATTE`
TOP 1200 CHOICE TRACKS

#597 ETERNAL FLAME The Bangles
For "Eternal Flame" the song's writers drew inspiration from The Beatles and The Byrds for the song's melody and basic structure. The title was the result of Susanna Hoffs recounting about her visit to Graceland and seeing an eternal flame there for Elvis Presley. Once she, Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly had completed the song, it was recorded by The Bangles with the former singing lead. Davitt Sigerson produced the recording.
As the track listing for new album 'Everything' was being finalized, there was some concern that the ballad did not fit with the overall sound of the new songs. Fortunately, "Eternal..." was included. The single went on to become a massive global success for The Bangles; reaching #1 in America, Britain, Australia, Europe and Ireland.

This is a list made up of the songs I enjoy the most, ranked in order of preference: the higher we go, the more I cherish them. Some were released as singles, others as album tracks. Some are obscure; others were worldwide hits or have universal appeal. They aren't always the most famous or popular, but simply a personal choice. I have excluded songs from the last few years in order to get a better idea of a song's lasting impression. I hope you find some new tracks to love, or re-discover some past favourites.
To mark the occasion of reaching the halfway mark for this special countdown, a new song will be added on the hour all day today (in place of this week's Mid Week Bonus).
