(MID-WEEK BONUS) #736-732
#736 THE WAY YOU LOOK TONIGHT Frank Sinatra
Widely regarded as 1 of the most important vocalists of all-time, Frank Sinatra was born in New Jersey in 1915. His songbook contains some of the best interpretations from that bygone era, switching effortlessly from big band to jazz, show tunes to swing while bringing audiences along with him for decades.
"The Way You Look Tonight" was written by Jerome Kern and Dorothy Fields. The song was originally recorded by Fred Astaire for the film 'Swing Time' and won the Academy Award for Best Song in 1936.
Ol' Blue Eyes' recording was arranged by Nelson Riddle in 1964. Other singers may have cut this song, but Sinatra's rendition is flawless and timeless. After 50 years of performing and recording, Sinatra passed away in 1998 due to a heart attack. That his music will continue to be not only played, but held up as a yardstick in the future, is assured.

#735 HANG ON IN THERE BABY Johnny Bristol
Johnny Bristol was a significant figure at Motown  during the 1960s. At the label, he worked as not only a recording artist but also as songwriter and producer. Bristol co- wrote the last US #1 for The Supremes: "Someday We'll Be Together", a song he had previously covered as half of the duo Jiohnny and Jackey. Upon leaving the label in 1973, he signed as a soloist with MGM Records.
The following year saw him release his biggest hit, "Hang on in There Baby". It reached #8 in America and #3 in the UK. Sadly, Bristol passed away in 2004, aged 65.

#734 WAITING ON A FRIEND Rolling Stones
The Rolling Stones released their 'Tattoo You' album in 1981. The bulk of its content was originally created in Jamaica back in 1973 and left unfinished or shelved. The song is credited to group members Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. The sax solo was performed by the renowned Sonny Rollins.

#733 SEASONS OF LOVE Original Broadway Cast
"Seasons of Love" is the standout song featured in the musical "Rent". The book and its songs were principally created by Jonathan Larson. The original Broadway cast recording was produced by Arif Mardin with co-production from Steve Skinner. The show was a contemporary rock musical, set amidst the turbulent lives of youths in New York's East Village.
The show opened off-Broadway initially, but made its debut on the Great White Way in 1996. It won the Tony Award for Best Musical and enjoyed a 12-year run that continued through to 2008. The cast recording was issued in August 1996. Larson passed away suddenly aged only 35, in January 1996, the night before previews began on Broadway.

#732 FLASHDANCE... WHAT A FEELING Irene Cara
The lyrics to "Flashdance... What a Feeling" were thought up by Irene Cara in a taxi on her way to the recording studio. She was set to work with Giorgio Moroder. The latter collaborated frequently with Keith Forsey, particularly on songs for Donna Summer. At the time Cara was offered the project, she had already endured comparisons to the R&B/ disco performer so this collaboration seemed a bad idea. Fortunately, the young star agreed and 1 of the best known movie songs came to be. Moroder produced the track which went on to reach #1 in America, Australia, Canada, Europe, Japan and  New Zealand. It was included on the 1983 film soundtrack for the motion picture 'Flashdance' which starred Jennifer Beals. The hit also appeared on Cara's "What a Feelin'" LP. Writers Cara, Forsey and Moroder were victoroius at the Oscars too, when they collected an Academy Award for Best Song.
