#763 I CAN'T LET GO Linda Ronstadt
Linda Ronstadt was one of the major successes of the 1970s. She scored considerable hits that included "Blue Bayou", "It's So Easy" and the US #1 "You're No Good". Ronstadt entered the Eighties with a new direction on her 'Mad Love' album. Included were covers of 3 Elvis Costello songs and 1 by Neil Young. This led to a more punk-oriented feel. "How Do I Make You" and "Hurt So Bad" preceded the release of 3rd single "I Can't Let Go". The latter was a remake of a 1966 hit single by The Hollies. The song was penned by Chip Taylor and Al Gorgoni. The former is the brother of actor Jon Voight. He also wrote "Wild Thing" for The Troggs and "Angel of the Morning" for Merilee Rush. 
Following her Top 40 success with "I Can't Let Go" in 1980, Ronstadt recorded in many other genres. This resulted in more chart appearances with songs like "What's New" (with The Nelson Riddle Orchestra) in 1983, "Somewhere Out There" (a duet with James Ingram) in 1986 and "Don't Know Much" (a collaboration with Aaron Neville) 3 years later.
