#761 WHEN WE WAS FAB George Harrison
In 1987, George Harrison revisited his past as a member of The Beatles on record for a second time, (following "All Those Years Ago"). In this instance, the mood was more upbeat. The title "When We Was Fab" refers to the Fab Four, as The Beatles were also known. There are lyrical and musical references to the group scattered throughout the song. Harrison co-wrote and co-produced the Top 40 hit with Jeff Lynne. The Beatles had been a major influence on the latter and inspired the formation of his group, Electric Light Orchestra.
Harrison and Lynne not only collaborated on his album 'Cloud Nine' which contained the hit, but also became founding members of the Traveling Wilburys with Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan and Tom Petty. In 1995, Lynne produced a new release from The Beatles, "Free as a Bird". This single was a demo by John Lennon on which the surviving Beatles contributed.
