#955-951 20 -a -day special fast track...

#955 JUST WALK IN MY SHOES Gladys Knight & the Pips
Motown's roster of talent was remarkable, with legendary performers such as Marvin Gaye, MIchael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, The Temptations and Gladys Knight. The latter formed a vocal group with relatives in 1952. They signed with various labels before joining Berry Gordy's record company. In 1966 "Just Walk in my Shoes" became their first single released on Soul, a Motown subsidiary. The song was penned by Helen & Ray Lewis and produced by Harvey Fuqua & Johnny Bristol. Their 'Everybody Needs Love" album contained the track.

#954 IF THERE WAS A MAN The Pretenders
'The Living Daylights' was the latest instalment of the British secret agent's tale. At that time, the character of James Bond was played by Timothy Dalton. The film opened in 1987.  Chrissie Hynde, lead singer of The Pretenders, wrote the song which was included on the film's soundtrack. The song remains one of the most overlooked Bond songs. The group slowed things down, but Hynde's voice makes the overall track very moving.A-Ha recorded the title song.

#953 MORE TODAY THAN YESTERDAY Spiral Starecase
Californian group Spiral Starecase became members of the One-hit wonder club following the chart run achieved by their breakthrough single "More Today Than Yesterday". In the US, the disc reached #12 in 1969. Lead singer/ guitarist Pat Upton wrote the song. It was the title track from their 1969 LP.

#952 FREEWAY OF LOVE Aretha Franklin
Aretha Franklin enjoyed a comeback of sorts in the 1980s. "Freeway of Love", issued in 1985, made her hip again, becoming the Queen of Soul's first Top 10 single for 12 years. The song was authored by Jeffrey Cohen and Narada MIchael Walden. The latter also produced  and played drums/ percussion on the cut. Clarence Clemons, from Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, contributed the sax solo. Sylvester, the transvestite disco singer, was one of the guests on backing vocals. "Freeway" was featured on the 'Who's Zoomin' Who' album.

#951 THE KING HAS LOST HIS CROWN Abba
'Voulez Vous' found ABBA further embrace disco. There are traces of the popular genre on almost every track (with notable exceptions being the ballads "Chiquitita" and "I Have A Dream"). Group members Benny Andersson & Bjorn Ulvaeus composed the song for the group's 1979 LP. Again, the title and upbeat feel of the song camouflage the imagery hidden among the lyrics. The theme of the song revolves around a man who thought he was in control, now finding himself jilted by a woman that has no interest in him.
