#878 YOU'RE THE FIRST, THE LAST, MY EVERYTHING Barry White
It's hard to imagine now, but "You're the First, the Last, my Everything" started out as a country song penned by Sterling Radcliffe and remained unrecorded for over 2 decades. The country songwriter met Barry White and heard that the musician was enduring financial hardship. He bought White's children Christmas presents. Years later, when White had achieved major success, Radcliffe contacted him. In 1974, the song was cut and released as a single. White and his songwriting collaborator Tony Sepe transformed the song into a disco-flavoured and funky track. White came up with some new lyrics while recording the song. He also produced it. The single peaked at #2 on the American Pop chart and #1 R&B. In the UK, it reached the top.
