#1079 DON'T MAKE ME OVER Dionne Warwick
Sometimes, chemistry just happens. The best examples are spontaneous and unexpected. Dionne Warwick's reading of this beautiful ballad from the songwriting team of Burt Bacharach & Hal David is one such instance of magic. One day, Bacharach noticed Warwick at a Drifters recording session. He suggested the singer record some demos of songs he had penned with David. The 2 songwriters played one of these demos to the head of Sceptor Records. He signed her up on the strength of that demo. The composers had now found the definitive instrument for their material. It was a perfect match. The first fruit of their teaming was "Don't Make Me Over". Released as her debut single in 1962, the disc cracked both the US R&B and pop charts. Warwick was to sing numerous other pop gems from the Bacharach- David team.
