#1067 BOOGIE OOGIE OOGIE A Taste of Honey
The funky disco hit "Boogie Oogie Oogie" was inspired by a gig at a military base where the audience was indifferent to A Taste of Honey's performance. The song's lyrics came to group member Janice Marie Johnson at that moment as she directed stern words to the crowd. Prior to that performance, Johnson had been playing on her guitar, unaware that it was being recorded. The others heard her play a riff they liked and that became the intro to their first hit song. Johnson sang lead vocals on the track as well as playing bass. She co-wrote the US #1 hit with keyboard player Perry Kibble. Fonce and Larry Mizell produced the cut. Released in 1978, the song was also included on their debut self-titled album.
